Philippine’s Secret Paradise:EXTREME SURVIVAL ECODRINK ADVENTURE by Third Garcia / November 4th 2008

All my life I have been dreaming of a perfect getaway. All I want to do is to unwind and to free my mind.

I can say that the past semester break is the best so far because of a perfect sembreak getaway. Who would know that the Philippines has a secret paradise that lies in the southern tip of Luzon. Imagine a peninsula consist of more than 40 virgin islands with pure powdery white sand and crystal clear water. Islands that have perfect rock formations that can be a perfect site for rock climbing.

It was 7:00am of October 27, 2008 when our group met at Jr Yu's house before going to Camarines Sur. We all knew that it is going to be a long drive. It's ok RG Torres will drive no worries for us, we can sleep. After traveling for about 5hours we decided to have our lunch so we looked for a good place to have our lunch. We took our lunch at "Kubo ni Aling Cristina" in Candelaria, Quezon. What we had for lunch are Sisig, Kalderetang Kambing, Monggo Soup and the infamous "Champene".

It took us almost 8 hours to get to Daet, Camarines Norte to visit RG's parents. We went to RG's house in Daet, Camarines Norte and a lot of food is waiting for us. We had Kare-kare, Pancit, Grilled tanigue, Alamang, and lumpia for dinner, pili tart and "KNOCKS" (NAKS!) for dessert. Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Torres for a wonderful dinner. After dinner we decided to travel another 2 hours for us to get to Libmanan, another house of RG's parents, this time in Camarines Sur. Before going to sleep we had a laid back drinking session while enjoying beautiful ambiance.

October 28, 2008- On our way to Caramoan Islands. From Rg's place in Libmanan we should travel for another 45 minutes to Naga City Terminal and ride a jeepney or a van for another 2 hours for you to get to Sabang Port, from Sabang Port you have to ride a boat for another 2 hours for you to reach Caramoan Island Mainland. Yes! It's a lot of traveling! But it was really fun! We finally reached Port of Caramoan but unluckily it's already 7:00pm so we have to stay in the mainland for a night. We looked for a place to stay so we ride a tricycle from Port of Caramoan to the Municipality of Caramoan. It’s like a 30minute tricycle ride. But we don't want to stay in a hotel or apartelle so we ride a tricycle for the second time and traveled for another 30minutes until we reach the beach to set a camp at Paniman Bay. Imagine the movie "The Beach" movie our experience was pretty much the same with that movie.

Caramoan Mainland (1st Camp)

October 29, 2008- From Caramoan Mainland, we took a boat ride for some island hoping experience. We look for an island for our second camp. We were all stunned when we saw the islands. All of them are beautiful. Crystal clear water with powdery white sand. Our first stop is Matukad island, an island with two shores and has 3 small beaches then we went to Lahus Island and Island also with two shores then we went to Hanungan Island where the crew of “Survivor” French edition stayed. In front of Hanungan Island is another Island about 400 meters far. Claude Mejia, Rg Torres, Erald Panopio and I decided to swim towards that Island. We had our lunch at Hanungan Island and after that we went to Pitogo Island and Sabitang Laya Island which has a long stretch of pure white sand beach with crystal clear water.

The day is almost over when we chose Matukad Island for our second camp site. On our way to Matukad Island the rain started to fall while Ate Van Yu and Rg Torres went to Mainland to buy foods for our dinner and liquors for the night. After the rain we had our dinner and started to drink. We had a native fried chicken, Tuna in can, corned beef and rice for dinner. We all slept in the beach and it is like we owned the whole island because there are no other people in the Island. I was so amazed and stunned when I woke up because I am the only one in the beach and my friends are in the camp. It is really a great feeling to be in an island alone.

October 30, 2008- After a wonderful night in Matukad Island, we took advantage of the beautiful beach, we never waste a minute to experience the crystal clear water of the beach. We explored every possible way in the island. We found a small coral reef and we were amazed because we didn’t expect that there’s a reef in Matukad Island. We also found 2 small beaches on the side of the Island. We also climb on the walls of the Island using every rock as the holds and steps. We were shocked for what we saw, A secret lagoon in the Island. Before you reach the lagoon you have to climb the rock formation and go down on the other side.

Last step on Matukad Island

After exploring the Island, we decided to go home in Libmanan, Camarines Sur because we still have a big day on the next day. Again, another 1 hour rocky road tricycle ride from the beach to the port of Caramoan then 2 hours boat ride from Caramoan to Sabang the 2 hours land travel from Sabang to Naga City, then another 45 minutes ride from Naga City to Libmanan. All of us weren’t able to take a bath for 3 days in the Island because there is no fresh water in there. We all just swim in the sea when we feel warm and hot. So when we get home to Libmanan, we all rush in the shower to freshen up ourselves.

We sang in the videoke with Rg’s cousin, Lottie Ragos and had a couple bottles of beer. It is like we have all the energy because we never get to know the word “TIRED”.

October 31, 2008- We planned to go to Camsur Watersports Complex (CWC) in Naga City and play wakeboard. It is my first time in CWC and I find it very nice. There’s a lot of tourist, foreigners, VIP’s and celebrities in CWC. We were able to meet Gov. L-Ray Villafuerte, Ex-Mayor Joey Marquez, Will Devon and Riza Santos. I was so depressed because I wasn’t able to stand up in the Wakeboard all I can do is the knee board. But still it was a great experience. We were lucky because CWC has a Halloween party that day so we experienced the way bicolanos celebrate Halloween. After playing wakeboarding we decided to spend another night in Camarines Sur because there’s already no bus to Manila that night. We spent our night in Ping, Sandy, Junnie Deomano’s place in Naga City. Thanks guys for your hospitality! And of course before sleeping we had a couple bottles of beer and had a little chit chat conversation.

Halloween Party

We stayed in Camarines for almost one week, six days to be exact. I will treasure every minute and every second of the trip because I can say that it is one of the best trip that I ever had. I’m in a good place with a good people and ate good foods. Sometimes it is good to have no communication while you’re in a paradise. You can forget your problems while you are in an isolated part of the world. All you have to think is what to eat and what to do for tomorrow. Well, we are all back into the reality and all we have to do is to preserve every paradise in this world. Let us not take advantage of this paradise so that the future generation will experience what we have experienced.
